How do I start practising positive thinking?

Some strategies can improve our positive thinking aspects. Noticing our thoughts and a conscious
effort to convert them from negative to positive ones could be the first step towards positive thinking
practice. There are things we can do to learn to think more positively.

Practice Gratitude

Focus on the good things in your life and you will naturally shift into a positive state of mind.
Make a list of things that you are grateful for. You can keep writing a gratitude journal to note down
a few things that made you feel happy or great.

Anything I mean anything that makes you feel happy, that could be a rainy day that touches your mind with its cold raindrop. Or it could be some moment with your friends and family which crawls in your skin.

These few things list will make your mind capable to convert negative thoughts to positive ones.

Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the method which includes your thought at the present moment with the sensations and
environment. It has a bunch of benefits including improving awareness of your thoughts and moods.
Whenever you're feeling stressed or depressed, take a few deep breaths and focus on the moment
of your state of mind. Notice how your body feels.
Once you're able to actively notice and identify your thoughts then you can easily convert your
negative thought to positive.

Use Positive Self-Talk

Self-talk emphasises the things we tell ourselves mentally. In other words, the inner voice inside

our mind that analyzes how we are going to perform or interact with the world around us.

If your self-talk is centred on negative aspects then your self-esteem could suffer.

Whether you start to think any critical thoughts about yourself, take a break for a moment and

assess your thought, with is it positive or negative. Pay conscious attention to your thought,

if it has negative patterns then actively work to change them into positive ones.

You could start looking for a thought pattern and reframe your behaviour to engage with

positive thinking instead of negativity.

Cultivate Optimism

Learning to think positively is like doing dum-bell exercises to strengthen your muscle,

the more you use them, the stronger they will become.

Researchers said that your explanatory style or how you explain events is linked to whether

you are an optimist or pessimist.

An optimist has attributed good things to his skill and effort with a positive explanatory style.

And a pessimist tends to have a negative attributional style.

An optimist explains their unfortunate events or an event over which they don't have any control

as isolated incidents. They don't blame themselves for any accidental occurrences.

Do not blame yourself for the event over which you don't have any control and ensure to give credit

for doing good things for yourself is the way to cultivate optimism.

Keep Practicing

While these attempts could take some time, you may find that your thinking positively becomes

more natural. So keep practising.

Remember that to think positively, you need to invest your energy in things that you enjoy.

Keep yourself surrounded by people who bring your mind joy through their positive thinking attributes.
